Whilst Whale watching in Tenerife in October 2023, we saw the resident short fin pilot whales (G. macrorhynchus) who prefer warmer tropical waters and the common bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus).

Pilot whales are one of the largest oceanic dolphins and are also known as blackfish.
Pilot whales mainly eat squid, cod and turbot. They are highly social and may remain with their birth pod throughout their lifetime.
Bottlenose dolphins are very intelligent – they can use tools to forage for food and share knowledge from generation to generation. They eat fish, squid, crabs and shrimp.
